Paul Pinkney

Paul Pinkney Jr. was born on May 23, 1940, in Baltimore, MD, to the late Paul R. Pinkney and Dora Lee Holland. He transitioned on February 27, 2024, after a lengthy illness. Paul lived his early years in Baltimore where he was RICH (Raised in Cherry Hill). He attended Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from The Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in 1958. Years later, he attended Essex Community College. Paul held various jobs, including caddying, driving a cab, and working at London Fog. Upon leaving London Fog, Paul worked at General Motors on Broening Highway and retired after more than 42 years of service. He was a loyal member of the United Auto Workers and an advocate for employee rights. During his retirement, Paul enjoyed traveling and spending time with family members and friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Paul was known for his hospitality and community service. He volunteered in food distribution activities and was an election official during state and federal elections in Howard County. Paul was a Renaissance man with numerous interests. He liked to read and found the book Not in My Neighborhood of particular interest because it detailed the history of housing in Baltimore. Paul enjoyed watching movies and television; he especially enjoyed the mysteries and detective stories on PBS. Paul was also a collector of statues, Hess trucks, and African American art; he added a Hess truck to his collection every year, and “High Noon” by Kadir Nelson was a favorite in his art collection. Paul's marriage to Diana Harden ended in divorce. His marriage to Brenda Dawson ended with her death. Paul leaves to cherish his memory: Joan Jeffries Pinkney, his devoted wife of almost 20 years; four children: Lorrine Johnson (Bernard); Mark Pinkney (Cynthia); Vanessa Pinkney (Maurice), and (stepson) Leroy Jeffries Jr. His sons Paul Pinkney III and Paul Kevin Pinkney died before him. Paul was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Paul is also survived by his brother Thelmon Holland (Sherie). His brothers Donald and Ronald died before him as did his sister Diane. Paul will be remembered with love by a host of other family and friends.
