REVEREND JOHN EDWARD LUNDY, a devoted servant of God, loving husband, father, and cherished community member, peacefully departed this life on January 11, 2025, just shy of his 99th birthday. Born on January 20, 1926, he was one of nine children born to the late Deacon Thomas Oliver Lundy Sr. and Mrs. Queen Victoria Moses Lundy in McKenney, Virginia. Raised in a Christian home, John accepted Jesus Christ at an early age at First Baptist Church in McKenney, Virginia. His love for singing was evident as he graced several church choirs with his melodious voice. In 1957, John married Dorothy Lundy, his partner in life and love. Their 65-year marriage was a testament to enduring love and commitment, and they are now joyfully reunited in heaven. Carrying on the family tradition, John began his career as a barber at just twelve years old, a skill he honed alongside his father. In April 1944, he joined the Navy where he continued his career in barbering. He honorably served in World War II. The 1950s brought John to New York, where he joined his brother Thomas Jr. and opened his very own barbershop, “John’s Barbershop.” It became a beloved community fixture and a place where John shared his warmth and wisdom with patrons for many years. John became an integral part of the Evening Star Baptist Church community, remaining a faithful member for over 70 years. His unwavering faith and love for the Lord illuminated his path and touched the hearts of all who knew him. John loved New York Yankees baseball, a team he supported with great enthusiasm. Whether watching games from his living room or chatting with fellow fans, his love for the Yankees was a treasured part of his life and brought him immense joy. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy; his parents, and his siblings. He leaves behind a legacy of love and faith, cherished by his son, Eric Lundy; grandchildren, Shawna, Rhonda, Eric Jr., Aaron (Erinn), and Erica; great-grandchildren, Darryl Jr., Kayla, Jaquae, Marcus, Marcel, Jenascia, Edyn, and Zorah; and great-great-grandson, Darryl III. His memory will be forever treasured by his loving Evening Star Baptist Church family and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and all who were blessed enough to know him. Reverend Lundy’s life was a testament to his faith, love, and dedication to family, community, and his craft. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide those who follow in his footsteps.
