Jessy Ogbu

Today, we gather with heavy hearts, yet with hope firmly anchored in Christ, to celebrate the life and legacy of Jessy Rita Ogbu (née Mbulu)—a woman of faith, strength, compassion, and determined love. Jessy Rita Ogbu was born on December 20, 1971, in Ndobu, Igbodo, Delta State, Nigeria, to the late Ugbome Mbulu and Ngbolie Mbulu. She peacefully departed this life on December 14, 2025, at HonorHealth Hospital, having completed her earthly assignment. From an early age, Rita distinguished herself as a woman of excellence. She attended Orie Primary School, graduating with high honors, and later proceeded to Comprehensive High School, Igbodo, before transferring to AGG Asaba. Her passion for caring for others led her to the College of Education in Agbor, where she began her journey into nursing—a calling she pursued with dedication, diligence, and compassion. Rita completed her nursing and midwifery training in Benin City and later relocated to Lagos, Nigeria, where she worked faithfully as a nurse. She was deeply committed to her profession, serving with integrity, humility, and a genuine heart for people. Industrious and selfless by nature, Rita learned early the value of hard work. As a young woman, she produced garri to support herself. She contributed generously to her family, including playing a significant role in fundraising efforts to help her elder brother’s journey to the United States. Her life was marked by sacrifice, generosity, and responsibility. Rita later moved to the United States, where in 2011 she was blessed with twin children—Uche, her beloved daughter, and Ugo, her cherished son—the pride and joy of her life. Everything Rita did thereafter was motivated by her deep love for her children and her desire to secure their future. A lifelong learner, Rita pursued higher education and proudly earned her RN–BSN degree from Grand Canyon University. She was an active member of the Nigerian Nurses Association in Dallas, Texas, the Golden Gals Association, and several other professional and social organizations. Rita was also a woman of deep and staunch faith. She loved Jesus wholeheartedly and affectionately called Him “Baba.” She was a devoted woman of prayer, a servant in God’s house, and a believer who trusted God through every season of life. Her passion for the gospel inspired her to author a book titled “The Corona: Blood of Jesus,” and she was working on a second book before her passing. Through vision and determination, Rita established her own Home Health Care business, Jessy Effective Home Healthcare, which was beginning to thrive. She balanced motherhood, ministry, entrepreneurship, and service with grace. In her quiet moments, she found joy in reading, writing, praying, and spending quality time with her children. Rita shared a particularly close and trusted bond with her beloved brother, Martin Mbulu. She held him in the highest regard and entrusted him deeply, confident in his love, integrity, and commitment to her family. Their relationship reflected mutual respect, trust, and devotion—one rooted in family, faith, and responsibility. Following a diagnosis of a terminal illness, Rita faced her final season with courage, dignity, and unwavering faith. She fought the good fight, she finished her course, and she kept the faith. And now, as the Apostle Paul declares, “there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness” (2 Timothy 4:7–8). Today, though our hearts ache, we rejoice in the assurance that Rita has entered into eternal rest, embraced by the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
