Henry C. English

HENRY CLAY ENGLISH, born on September 24, 1934 in Baltimore, Maryland, was a devoted son of Ozie and Leonard English. After a life of unwavering faith and dedication, he was called home by his Lord and Savior on September 12, 2024, giving all that he had, a true fighter he was. Educated in Baltimore City Schools, Henry began working at the young age of 13 and dedicated himself to his career, retiring from Loyola College in 2017. He was an active member of Transformation Church of Jesus Christ, having previously been part of St. James United Methodist Church and his family's church, Ebenezer. Known for his deep love of the Lord, he could often be found reading his Bible on the porch, sharing words of wisdom and comfort with his neighbors, so much so they though he was a preacher. A passionate football fan, Henry's heart belonged to the Baltimore Ravens. In 2006, he met Vivian, the love of his life, whom he spoiled rotten, and they married in June 2008. This union brought him great joy as he embraced his extended family with unconditional love. Family gatherings were filled with laughter and cherished stories of "Back In My Day." Henry enjoyed simple pleasures shopping at grocery markets, farmer's markets, and supermarkets. He particularly loved trips to Rehoboth Beach for Black Friday deals. He shared a unique bond with his lifelong friend, Rev. James Lightfoot, a friendship he treasured dearly. He enjoyed ending his nights listening to Freshwater Ministries nighttime devotions a ministry led by his son and daughter, Bishop Larry and Executive Pastor Michelle. Henry is remembered for his heartfelt sayings: "I Thank God for my Family," "He may not come when you want Him, but He's always on time," and "I love me some Vivian, I thank God for my Wife." He was preceded in death by his brother Leonard English II and sisters Ruth Hendrix, Emma Evans, and Agnes Jones. He leaves behind: his beloved wife, Vivian English; children, Roslyn and Jonathan English, Brenda, Larry (daughter-in-law Florence), Michelle, Wanda, and Caron Richardson; along with grandchildren Keyon, Shakia, Devon, Trevira, Nathan, Dwayne, Demetrius, April and Jessica; his sister, Helen Brown; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Henry Clay English will be profoundly missed but forever remembered for his strength, love, and unwavering faith.
