Dewayne Rodney Queen

Born January 20, 1964 in Baltimore, Maryland, Dewayne Rodney Queen was the last child of Joan and James Queen. Dewayne became interested in entrepreneurship early on, a characteristic that stayed with him throughout his life. By age 8, he spent evenings and weekends earning money carrying groceries for customers and retrieving missing grocery carts at Food-A-Rama. He also delivered groceries for neighbors, cleaning basements, raking leaves, cutting grass, and assisting customers in his grandfather's unofficial "hack" taxi. Growing up in Northwest Baltimore, Dewayne enjoyed playing basketball and working out. He often stayed up late boxing in the gym he created in the family's basement where he also played table tennis. In 1982, he graduated from Walbrook High School. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps and was stationed at Camp Lejeune. There, he became a sergeant, continued boxing, and served our country for four years. He later worked as a Correctional Officer (Sergeant). In 1992, he earned his Associate's Degree in legal studies from Baltimore City Community College. The following year, he became a Maryland State Trooper. Dewayne also served as a Contract Investigator for the U.S.Department of State and the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. In 1997, Dewayne joined Maryland State Police Special Tactical and Assault Team Element, SWAT. He served with this elite team of highly trained officers who responded to high-risk incidents until 2005. At one time during his service, he guarded then-President George H.W. Bush at Camp David.While working as a trooper, Dewayne launched DQ Tax Service, which he successfully ran for 33 years, until his untimely death. While running his firm, he became a member of the American Society of Tax Problem Solvers, ASTPS; the National Society of Accountants, NSA; and the National Association of Tax Professionals, NATP. Dewayne also worked as a Certified Tax Coach, CTC, an authorized IRS e-file provider, and achieved the "Enrolled Agent" designation from the U.S. Department of Treasury. He loved children and enjoyed spending time with his young sons, Donovan and Desmond; his step-daughter Kia Johnson and granddaughter Karter Jenkins. In his free time, Dewayne enjoyed writing poetry and playing the blues on the harmonica, piano, and guitar. He continued playing table tennis and pool. Always mild mannered, Dewayne had lots of friends as people were drawn to him. Dewayne was predeceased by his mother, Joan Queen; and siblings, Thomas Hill and Linda Queen. He is survived by his father, James Queen; his children, Donovan Buckmon and Desmond Buckmon; his siblings, Brenda Clark (Michael); Kenneth Hill, Sr.(Debra); and James Timothy Queen; along with nephews, nieces and a host of family.
