Charles Bailey

A Time to be Born… CHARLES MICHAEL BAILEY was born on May 20, 1944, to the late Esther (Handy) Bailey and Vernon Joseph Bailey. A Time to Grow… Charles was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated from Carver Vocational Technical High School in 1962 and served in the United States Air Force from 1963 until 1967. He later worked for Western Electric and International Paper serving as a materials specialist until retirement. Mike, as everyone affectionately called him, was best known for his love for his wife, children, grandchildren, and sisters, spending quality time with his family, and his passion for sports. During his time at Carver Vocational Technical High School, he was made part of the track, swim, and wrestling teams. He continued to wrestle during his service in the United States Airforce and soon became a fitness trainer. Charles would later become a black belt (Shodan) in Judo and an Assistant Coach for the Forest Park Little League baseball team. On any given Sunday he enjoyed watching the Baltimore Ravens, Baltimore Orioles, or Los Angeles Lakers, his favorite sports teams. Notably, on any given day he was everyone’s personal driver transporting his wife, children, and grandchildren to work, school, and sporting events. Charles also loved watching movies and listening to music where you could catch his contagious laughter and singing aloud from time to time. He was a man of virtue and the most patient individual one could ever encounter. Such patience was readily apparent while he taught many of his siblings and children how to drive and while accompanying his wife during full day shopping sprees from early mornings until late evenings. Charles often looked forward to celebrating birthdays, holidays, and catching up with his family. Although he was of a small build, he had the biggest appetite one could ever witness, and you could count on him going up for second and even third plate helpings. Charles will always be remembered for his selflessness, sacrifices, generosity, warm spirit, beautiful smile, and perpetual energy. He was always a phone call away showing up with unwavering presence to help anyone in need. Charles was an exceptional husband, dad, brother, uncle, grandad, neighbor, friend, and everyone’s Pop-Pop. A Time to Expire... Charles was peacefully called home to rest on June 9, 2026, at Autumn Lake Healthcare in Pikesville, Maryland. A Time to Cherish... Charles leaves a legacy of love with: his wife, Patricia Bailey; son, Anthony Bailey (Latisha); daughter, Michele Bailey; bonus daughters Talisha Williams (Aaron) and Lakisha Hicks; grandchildren, Shakira Bailey, Antione McQueen, Anthony Bailey Jr., Jawuan Bailey, Amar Bailey, Jaylen Williams and Jabari Williams; great-granddaughters, Harmony Bailey and Syrai Dukes; sisters, Vernetta Dixon, Elizabeth Hasan (Sunni) and Florence Hall (David); brother, Rodney Spears; sisters-in-law, Ann Handy and Robinette Bailey; brother-in-law, Joseph Hicks (Daphne); devoted niece, Dawn Hall; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
