Barry Hayes

Barry Hayes was born on February 29, 1956, in Brooklyn, NY to the late Sonny and Irene Hayes. He was raised in Brooklyn with his six siblings where he attended Bushwick High School. He later joined Job Corp in Kentucky where he earned his GED and studied to be a Mechanic specializing in Autobody Repair. After graduation, he moved back to Manhattan, NY where he took various jobs. Barry left this earthly life on July 23, 2026, after a battle with cancer. In 1987 he relocated to Silver Spring, MD and began working for Moyer and Sons Moving Company, until 2016. Following his tenure there, he was employed at the ARC of Montgomery County in Rockville, MD. He retired from Giant Food is 2024. Barry met his wife, Bessie, the love of his life, in 2002. He said, “She was the best thing that ever happened to him.” They were married on September 24, 2005, and were inseparable over 20 years. Barry accepted Christ as his personal savior and was baptized on March 26, 1989, at Refuge Church of Christ in Silver Spring, MD. He joined Carolina Church on November 9, 2008. He was a faithful member and consistently supported his Church, Pastor and First Lady, Anthony and Cynthis Moore, with his financial resources and service. He consistently attended worship services and other events until his health failed. He assisted the Carolina Church Embrace Ministry by opening the doors, welcoming congregants and helping the ladies out of their cars. He also assisted his Pastor, Anthony Moore by providing armourbearer support during Wednesday Bible studies and sometimes after Sunday worship. Barry loved people and he never met a stranger. He left an impression upon everyone he met. He loved to witness to others about the goodness of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and carried in his wallet cards with Romans 10:9 and the salvation prayer written on them. He was not ashamed of the gospel. He led multiple people to Christ or planted the seed about Jesus. Barry loved watching and playing basketball. He played at the famous Rutgers Park and in street ball tournaments in Brooklyn NY Parks with the likes of Bernard King. His family says he was an NBA caliber player. He was a movie buff and enjoyed action movies. He loved old school music. Barry’s parents, Sonny and Irene along with his son, Garrett, brother Anthony, sisters Gail and Brenda, brothers-in-laws Mckinley Robinson, Willie Robinson, James Robinson and sister-in-law Carolyn Robinson preceded him in death. Barry leaves to cherish his life with sweet memories, the love of his life, his wife Bessie, two brothers, Dwayne (Diamond) Hayes, Elton (Kerra) Hayes, one sister Michelle Hayes, four brothers-in-laws, Hazel (Ella Louise) Robinson, Marvin Robinson, Lee Robinson and Norman Robinson, one sister-in-law Ruby (Abraham) Ricks, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
