Linda Young Moses

Linda Young Moses was born Linda Mary Young, the only child of Raymond and Jeanie Young in Baltimore, Maryland on May 20, 1952. Reared in the Baltimore public school system, she obtained her Nursing Diploma from the Church Home and Hospital School of Nursing in 1973. She unapologetically broke through the glass ceiling by obtaining her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and her Nurse Practitioner license from the University of Maryland School of Nursing, becoming one of only 3% of African American Neonatal NICU nurses in the United States. As a CRNP/NNP, she cared for thousands of newborns born prematurely or with critical illnesses and special needs. She retired in 2019 after 46 years of devoted service, but the UMMC NICU remained engrained in her heart until her passing. Although known for her quiet and calming presence, she knew how to have a good time. Spending time with her family and friends kept her busy and fulfilled. She was an avid vacationer and loved all things Baltimore, including crab cakes, the Ravens and the Terps. Linda, also affectionately known to her family as Lin, Nanny, Aunt and “Yo “, was freed from all pain and suffering on January 9, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and soulmate of 17 years, William Henry Moses, and her grandson, Jeremy Barnes. Left to cherish her memory include her daughters Yvette Hokett (Winfred) of Latta, South Carolina, Yvonne Barnes of Columbia, South Carolina and the “baby-girl” Angela Moses of Fairfax, Virginia. Five grandchildren, Jaquana Brown (primary caretaker), Lamar Barnes, Brandon Moultrie (Milly), Kendall Moultrie and Whitney Hokett. Eight great grandchildren including the eldest, Amir Brown (caretaker). Nieces, Wanda Moses and Victoria Dicks. Nephew, James Tisdale. Best friend, Beverly Smith and God Daughters Christy Smith, Chanda Thomas, and Jamie Gissendaner. Her University of Maryland Medical Center NICU family and a host of relatives, friends and neighbors. Linda lived her life with dignity, grace and complete authority. She did it her way and epitomized the meaning of love incarnate. Her rewards in heaven will certainly never end because of how she blessed others. Although she will be dearly missed, her legacy of love and kindness will remain a treasure that we can all carry in our hearts until we shall meet her again.
