James J. Jones, Jr.

JAMES JOSEPH JONES JR., affectionately known as “Jimmy” or “JJ,” was born to the late Helena Mary Barney Jones and James Joseph Jones Sr. on January 15, 1956, in Baltimore, MD. He departed this life to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 8, 2022. He received his education in the Baltimore City Public Schools and was proud to be amongst the first graduating class of Walbrook Senior High School in 1974. He then went on to join the United States Army in 1975 and earned his honorable discharge. In 1981, he received his Bachelor of Science in Management Science from Coppin State College where he became a very proud member of the Psi Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. If you knew him, you knew how proud he was of his career with the United States Postal Service, from which he retired in 2012. With all the pride he had in his educational accomplishments, as a Veteran, serving in several different capacities at the Post Office, as the only brother to five sisters, the only uncle to his nieces and nephews; nothing compared to his pride and joy as a husband to the love of his life, the late Diane Andrea Jones. They joined in Holy Matrimony on July 26, 1980. From this beloved union came his daughter, Ayana Jones. He found joy in being a father and was elated, later in life, at the birth of his only son, Jaquan Jones. He had many interests and hobbies including photography, dressing snazzy as he would always ask “I look good today, don’t I?”, and eating. He was certainly someone to remember to all who have had the pleasure of meeting him. He was very supportive. While you could guarantee he’d make a couple of to-go plates, you could count on him to show up and support every accomplishment and family gathering. He didn’t discriminate on who he saw as family and carried all who he considered as family in his heart along with every special occasion. He enjoyed capturing the moment with photos and he had stories to tell to last a lifetime. He put God first and had a strong foundation of faith in Christ. He enjoyed reading his Bible and you could count on a conversation about his relationship with God. From his smile, to his check-in calls just to tell you about his daily activities, to his heartfelt recollection of his childhood and fun times, he will truly be missed. As we continue to celebrate his life, he leaves to cherish his beloved memory: his daughter, Ayana; son, Jaquan; the mother of his son, Tawanda; three bonus daughters, Shanika, Shantel and Chardae; five sisters, Linda (late Wayne, Sr.), Angela (Milford), Deborah, Adrienne (Ben) and Geralis; nine beloved nieces and nephews; twenty-one great-nieces and -nephews; a host of cousins and his longtime best friends, Rick “Ike”, Gary and Lou. James was preceded in death by his mother Helena, his father James Sr., his dear uncle Albert, his wife Diane, niece Tiffany, and his longtime best friend Glenn.
