Beverly Banks Smith

Beverly was born on October 11, 1956 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the third child born to the late Simon Banks and Gladys McCullough Banks. Beverly was also sister to Willa Mae and Brenda. Beverly attended Gwynns Falls Elementary School, Lemmel Junior High School, and graduated from Forest Park Senior High School in 1974. After graduating from high school, she enrolled at the Community College of Baltimore and Sojourner Douglass College. Eventually receiving a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. Beverly began her banking career in the work study program while attending Forest Park. She reported to work as a full-time employee at the 1st National Bank the Monday after graduation! She was prominent in the Baltimore Banking industry, holding several positions including vice-president at Bradford Bank and was Corporate Security Officer at M&T Bank (1st National/Allfirst). Beverly retired from the State of Maryland's Office of the Comptroller in 2020. Beverly gave her life to the Lord at an early age. She was baptized at the age of eight while attending Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. Olin P> Moyd. She served on the usher board and sung on the junior choir. She was also a member of Bethel A.M.E. of Randallstown. She was also a proud member of Order of the Eastern Star. Beverly was a wonderful, caring daughter, sister, aunt, friend and wife. She was the first person everyone called whenever they needed some advice or just someone to listen. She was her parent's caregiver when they got sick. She was second mother to her nieces and nephews and a friend to all. She enjoyed traveling, going to New Orleans and the Earth, Wind & Fire concert in 2022. Miami Beach and Hawaii in 2023. Her most recent trip was a New Years cruise to the Bahamas. She also loved spending time in Ocean City for Thanksgiving. Her creativity with arts and crafts was never ending, she loved to knit and crochet in addition to making jewelry with metal. As a child she played the violin. "BB" had a love for music, dancing and joking around. She was very proud of getting her "carry permit" and went to the gun range until her health began to fail. Beverly met her husband, Wendell Reginald Smith, while in elementary school later, they attended high school together. They reunited in October 2021 and married April 20,2024. The marriage brought Wendell and Beverly together as a family with the additions of sons Eric (Pharyn) and Brandon. She especially loved spending time with grandsons Tyler and Logan. She would get into intense discussions with Logan which sometimes ended in a brief wrestling match. Beverly leaves to mourn her loss: a loving and devoted husband and friend Wendell; her sister Brenda Stubbs; her nephew Byron R. James, Jr; niece Gwendola P. James-Lewis (Andre Lewis); a sister-in-law Lorraine V. Smith; great nieces and nephews; Levern, Breia, Diamond E., Robyn, Nija, Diamond J., Diamonique, Brandon and Zachary; six great-great nieces and nephews; and longtime friends Carolyn Chambers, Lucille Gross, Elaine Pierre, and God-sister Angie Moyd-Johnson; and a host of relatives and friends.
