Renee K. McCoy

Renee Karen McCoy, age 69, of Maryland, passed away on September 9, 2025. She was born in Washington, D.C., to the late Calvin McCoy and Louise McCoy, and grew up in a close-knit family rooted in faith and love. Renee was educated in the District of Columbia school system and graduated from Coolidge High School. She later embarked on a remarkable 47-year career with GEICO, where she served as a Claims Adjuster until her retirement in December 2022. Her diligence, professionalism, and kindness earned her the respect of her colleagues and customers. She received several Customer Service Awards. A devoted Christian, Renee served as an usher at Florida Avenue Baptist Church. Later she began worshipping at The Peoples Community Baptist Church, she loved the Benjamin Family meetings, and grew in her faith through Bible study. She also served as Treasurer of Josie’s Closet, where she helped lay the foundation for its mission. Renee was an active member of the National Council of Negro Women – Potomac Valley Section, serving on its Social Outreach Committee, and a member of the Howard University Hospital Auxiliary and its Tray Favors subcommittee. Renee was also very active in the Greencastle Lakes Community Association. After retirement, Renee embraced a new passion for fitness and well-being. She became an avid exerciser, attending classes four times a week at her local community center, where she also enjoyed walking with friends she met through the program. This new routine brought her energy, joy, and fellowship in her later years. Renee had many passions that enriched her life and the lives of others. She loved music deeply—attending jazz and R&B concerts, traveling on five jazz cruises, and even dreaming of becoming a professional DJ. Whenever friends gathered, Renee was the one called upon to “set the mood” with her music. She loved holding a microphone. She also loved traveling, with Aruba holding a special place in her heart, as well as visiting cities like New York, Chicago, and New Orleans. With her creative spirit, she aspired to pursue interior design and floral arranging after retirement. She is survived by her brothers, Calvin McCoy, Jr. (Joyce) and Franke McCoy; nieces Wendy Faison and Cindy Westray; goddaughter Kendra McIntyre; best friend Vanessa Davis; and a host of extended family and friends who will cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her parents. Renee will be remembered for her faith, generosity, joyful spirit, and her ability to bring light and music into every room.
