OBITUARY Maria Olimpia (Pimpa) Polio, 72, passed away on January 9th, 2024, when her heart stopped while she was sleeping. Born on October 5th, 1951, in Chilanguera, El Salvador, she was the daughter of Juan Alfaro and Evangelina Portillo and the youngest of three siblings Guadalupe (Lupe) and Juan Portillo. Pimpa grew up in Chilanguera, El Salvador. As a youth, she worked in the cotton fields of Chilanguera helping out her parents. There she met her lifelong partner and spouse, Salomon (Moncho) Polio, to whom she was married for 52 years and procreated seven children, Blanca Estela, Henry, William, Jose, Angelita, David, and Annie Patricia and had four grandchildren, Walter Lara, Luilli Guzman, Annalise Hernandez, and Lina Polio. Pimpa migrated to the United States in search of a better living in 1978 to Washington, DC. She worked in different areas but finally retired in 2019 as a cook at Meskerem Ethiopian Restaurant in Adams Morgan, Washington, DC where she was highly appreciated and loved by her coworkers and supervisors. She also cared for many of her nephews and nieces while their parents went to work and later on her grandchildren. Pimpa enjoyed spending time with her family, watching soccer games with her son, David, and grandsons among other sports. She was a die-hard fan of Real Madrid of Spain, Aguila of El Salvador, DC United and the Washington Commanders. She also was an excellent cook and loved to do so for her family. She also loved to watch her soap operas. She enjoyed her daily talks and laughs with her brother, Juan, who would make her laugh with his silly jokes. She was deeply passionate about helping others; she cared for all, and that desire was evident to everyone she touched. She made numerous friends wherever she would go for her humbleness, humor, and cheerful nature. She was a deeply caring and devoted mother and a loving wife, sister, and grandmother. Always putting them first above herself. Pimpa’s 72 years were full of life and love. She experienced true friendships and heartfelt love. She was smart but humble, elegant but unassuming, funny but no-nonsense, quiet but strong will, and kind but sharp. She was loyal and committed to her family and friends. Pimpa is survived by a loving family, her husband, Salomon Polio, her son David Polio, her daughter, Blanca Estela Polio, her brother, Juan Portillo, her grandchildren, Walter Lara, Luilli Guzman, Annalise Hernandez, Lina Polio, and a host of cousins, nephews/nieces, and other relatives and friends. Her smile and laugh will be missed by us all. She will be sincerely missed, especially by everyone who knew her and whom she made memories with. Pimpa touched the lives of many in her time here on earth. She will be forever missed, always loved, and never forgotten. Rest in peace our dear and beloved Pimpa. Nacida el 5 de Octubre de 1951 en Chilanguera, El Salvador, era hija de Juan Alfaro y Evangelina Portillo y la menor de tres hermanos Guadalupe y Juan Portillo. Pimpa creció en el cantón Chilanguera, El Salvador. De joven trabajó en los campos de algodón de Chilanguera ayudando a sus padres. Allí conoció a su compañero y esposo de toda la vida, Salomón (Moncho) Polio, con quien estuvo casada durante 52 años y procreó siete hijos, Blanca Estela, Henry, William, Jose, Angelita, David and Annie Patricia y tuvo cuatro nietos, Walter Lara, Luilli Guzmán, Annalise Hernández y Lina Polio. Pimpa emigro a los Estados Unidos en busca de una mejor vida en 1978 llegando a Washington, DC. Trabajó en diferentes áreas, pero finalmente se jubiló en 2019 como cocinera en el restaurante etíope Meskerem en Adams Morgan, Washington, DC, donde fue muy apreciada y querida por sus compañeros y jefes. También cuidó de muchos de sus sobrinos mientras sus padres iban a trabajar y tiempo depues de sus nietos. Pimpa disfrutaba pasar tiempo con su familia, viendo partidos de fútbol con su hijo David y sus nietos, entre otros deportes. Era una ardiente seguidora del Real Madrid de España, el Águila de El Salvador, el DC United, y los Washington Commanders. También era una excelente cocinera y le encantaba hacerlo para su familia. Disfrutaba mucho ver sus telenovelas. Gozaba mucho de sus llamadas diarias y risas con su hermano Juan, quien la hacía reír con sus chistes. Le apasionaba profundamente ayudar a los demás; ella se preocupaba por todos, y ese deseo era evidente en todos aquellos con quien interactuó. Hizo numerosos amigos dondequiera que iba por su humildad, humor y su carácter alegre. Era una madre muy cariñosa y devota, y una amorosa esposa, hermana y abuela. Siempre poniéndolos primero por encima de ella misma. Los 72 años de Pimpa estuvieron llenos de vida y amor. Experimentó verdaderas amistades y amor sincero. Era inteligente pero humilde, elegante pero sencilla, divertida pero sensata, tranquila pero de fuerte voluntad y amable pero prudente. Era leal y comprometida con su familia y amigos. A Pimpa le sobreviven una familia amorosa que ahora sufren su partida, su esposo, Salomón Polio, su hijo David Polio, su hija, Blanca Estela Polio, su hermano, Juan Portillo, sus nietos, Walter Lara, Luilli Guzmán, Annalise Hernandez, Lina Polio y un anfitrión de primos, sobrinos, otros familiares y amigos. Todos extrañaremos su sonrisa y su risa. Con sinceridad la extrañaremos, especialmente todos los que la conocieron y con quienes creó recuerdos. Pimpa tocó la vida de muchas personas durante su tiempo aquí en la tierra. La extrañaremos por siempre, la amaremos y nunca la olvidaremos. Descanse en paz nuestra querida y amada Pimpa.
