Khanthypor "Thypo" Chhim

We gather today to honor and remember a beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, friend, and light in all our lives. Thypo was born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the youngest of three boys. In 1975, his family fled the conflict in their homeland and came to the United States, where they built a new life in Towson, Maryland. He grew up surrounded by love, culture, and community -and he carried that same warmth with him throughout his life. He attended Loch Raven High School, where he was known for his athleticism, charm, and good humor. After time spent exploring the world and gaining experienceincluding two adventurous years in Barbados-he graduated from Towson University in 2006 with a degree in Computer Information Systems. Thypo was a man of many talents and joys. He loved fishing, kayaking, biking, and cheering on the Ravens. He was a self-taught guitarist, a karaoke king in the making, and a joyful ambassador of Cambodian dance and culture. But most of all, he loved people. He loved spending time with friends and family, and his heart found its true home when he reunited with Ann Souvandara -the love of his life. They were married in June 2024, surrounded by those who loved them most. Thypo had an extraordinary presence-gentle, joyful, kind, and cool in every sense of the word. He never demanded attention, yet always made you feel seen. We carry his spirit forward-in every laugh, every act of kindness, and every memory we share. Thypo is survived by his wife, Ann Souvandara, his parents, Dr. Pemy Chhim and Sovanthary Chhim, and his brothers, Sokunawaddh Chhim and Porthira Chhim and his sister-in-law, Heang Tan Chhim, and nephew Colston Chhim, Coen Chhim, his niece, Penelope Chhim, and many aunties, uncles and cousins. "The more we let our light shine, the more others can see their own path." - The Celestine Prophecy, James Redfield Thypo really appreciated The Celestine Prophecy-a book he liked so much that he gave away copies as Christmas gifts one year, hoping it might inspire others as it had inspired him. Thypo shined his light-with gentleness, joy, and quiet strength-and in doing so, helped the rest of us see a little more clearly. A little more hopefully. A little more lovingly. As we carry his memory forward, may we let our own lights shine a little brighter in his honor.
