Gwendolyn Loretta Johnson (née Jackson) was born on December 3, 1945, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Edith E. Dedmon and George E. Jackson. She was unexpectedly called into the presence of her Lord and Savior on August 6, 2025, where she found her eternal rest. Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Edith Dedmon and George Jackson, her sons Lamont Jackson and Malcolm Johnson Sr., her sisters, Charlene “Lump” Rowley and Joni Holland, her brothers, Larry “Butch” Dedmon, Keith Dedmon, and Daryl Jackson, and her niece, Rae Neale (LeSane). Gwendolyn, affectionately known as “Glenn”, “Gwen”, “Sister Weenie”, “Gram”, and “GG”, just to name a few, received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System. She worked many jobs over her lifetime, and while each job was different, a common thread connected them all - using her voice and experiences to give back and empower those less fortunate among us. She retired from the Baltimore City Mayor’s Office of Employment Development after 31 years, where she devoted her career to ensuring those the world looked down on had the job readiness skills to build a better future, reclaim their dignity and walk confidently into new opportunities. Of all the roles Glenn embraced in her career, community, and church, none brought her greater joy than the calling of motherhood to her three children: Lamont, Stephen, and Kris. She covered them in prayer daily, lifting their names before the Lord and trusting Him for their protection, guidance, and salvation. Her faith shaped the way she nurtured them, with love rooted in the Word of God, wisdom guided by the Holy Spirit, and steadfast support through every season of their lives. In their laughter, achievements, and even in their trials, she saw God’s hand at work, and she took comfort in knowing that her greatest legacy would live on in the lives they lead for God’s glory. From an early age, Glenn loved the Lord. She faithfully attended church with her grandparents at the St. John’s AME Church in Baltimore, Maryland. As an adult, she began her lifelong walk with the Lord at Christian Community Church in Baltimore, Maryland, under the pastorate of the late Bishop Conway Green. In 1980, she joined the New Psalmist Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Walter S. Thomas Sr., where she faithfully served until her passing. Glenn loved music and loved to sing praises to her God. She used her gift of song, serving as both a choir officer and member of the then-Cathedral and Chancel choirs. She continued to sing in the choir until her health prevented her. Through her work in the Discipleship Ministry as a facilitator, she poured into the lives of women, helping them strengthen their faith and deepen their walk with God. Her ministry didn’t stop at the church doors. To all who knew her, there was never a moment when she didn’t put the needs of others before her own. At times, without a dime to her name, she would often be found gathering clothes, food, and other supplies and personally, delivering them to those in need. Even in sickness and without transportation, she pressed her way to serve, often calling upon others to drive her through the city. Through the years, she volunteered with The New Visions House of Hope, The THOR Program, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Our Daily Bread, My Sisters Place, and many other charitable organizations throughout Baltimore City. Her life was a living testimony of Matthew 25:40, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. Glenn’s life was a living testimony to God’s mercy and His faithfulness. Despite decades of sickness, she continued to serve Him with gladness - never letting her ailments separate her from God’s love. She loved God and His people deeply and poured herself out so others might know his goodness. She was a true prayer warrior and intercessor who consistently stood in the gap for others through fervent, unwavering prayer. Her faith was not just personal; it was powerful and communal. Her spiritual strength and commitment brought comfort, healing, and hope to many. She walked in the assurance that “it pays to serve Jesus” and that her reward in glory was certain. Though she has finished her earthly race, we rejoice knowing she now rests in the presence of her Savior, hearing the words, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” Glenn leaves to cherish her memory, children Stephen Johnson and Kris Williams, grandchildren Kennard Jackson, Sean Thompson Sr, Dominique Merritt, Kalani Banks (Greg), Kristin Saylor (Garrett), Kelli Williams, Malcolm Johnson Jr., Tishara Wilson, and Marcus & Marcellus Harris, great-grandchildren, Sean Thompson, Jr, Bryson Saylor, Troy Schofield Jr., Braylon & Raelyn Saylor, Christian Schofield, Layla Wilson, and Blake and Autumn Richardson. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Tisha, sisters Faith Osaze (Mosi), Deirdre Yeboah, Joslyn Stavris, Christila Wideman (James) sisters-in-laws Gladys Gales (Michael) and Mildred Coombs, brothers Arnold Dedmon (Melissa), Carl “Chu” Jackson (Myra), Martin Jackson (Teresa) and an incredible host of other family members, nieces, nephews, and friends.
