Gertrude Lyndall Robinson

Gertrude Lyndall Robinson was born on June 24, 1933, in Fieldale, Va. to the late Carrie and Lester Wooten. She departed this life on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Sinai Hospital. Gertrude was educated in the public schools of Virginia and graduated from the Henry County Training School in Martinsville, Va in 1949 at the age of sixteen. Gertrude furthered her education at Maryland State College, now University of Maryland Eastern Shore and received a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Always an avid learner, Gert also received a letter of master's degree equivalency. While at the University of Maryland she met the late Walter C. Robinson. They were married in June 1953 and from this union two sons, Sterling Scott, and Vincent Brian were born. The family relocated to Baltimore, Maryland in 1961 to pursue new opportunities. Gert began her lengthy career teaching sixth grade at Mary Hunter Elementary School in Basset, Va. She began teaching in the Baltimore City Public School System in 1965 as a Physical Education teacher at Fairmont Hill High School. She taught at Greenspring Middle School until she retired on July 1, 1998, after 33 years of dedicated service. Gertrude accepted Christ at an early age and began her spiritual walk at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Fieldale, Va. Always seeking the Lord, Gert's spiritual journey led her to join Trinity Baptist Church in 1967 under the leadership of Reverend Carl Washington. During her membership at Trinity, Gert worked diligently on multiple ministries. She served on the Women's Guild, The Senior Ministry and Vacation Bible School. Welcoming people into the Lord's house was important to Gert, she was an integral part of the Usher Ministry serving locally, regionally, and nationally. She was the Treasurer for the Usher Ministry at Trinity in addition to the State Treasurer of the Progressive Baptist Convention. She received the Excellence Award from the Progressive Baptist Convention of Maryland, Inc. for her visionary guidance and leadership. Gert loved attending and serving at the Regional and National Progressive Conventions; it was a highlight she looked forward to yearly. Gert was very active in the Park Heights Association Community serving as the treasurer for the Parklane Neighborhood Association as well as being a member of the Senior Center. She lived in that community for over 50 years and many of the young men considered her to be a second mother. The last two years of her life, Gert lived with and was cared for by her son Vincent and daughter in love Diane. One thing that many may not know is that Gert was an avid football fan. You could always find her in front of the TV yelling for her team the Baltimore Ravens to win. The day that she transitioned she told the hospital staff to hurry up so that she could get home to see her football game. (The Ravens won 41-38 against the Bengals). Gert's top priority was always family first. She loved spending time with her sons and grandchildren. They often traveled back to Virginia for various holiday gatherings and all the family reunions. Memories of Gert will be cherished by her two sons Sterling and Vincent (daughter-in-love, Diane); grandchildren Vincent, Maya, and Ryan; great grandchildren Blake and Callie. Three brothers, George, Wasena (sister-in-love, Betty), Vagola ( sister-in-love, Dávila) devoted cousin Peggy Thompson- Wimberly, devoted neighbor and friend Liz Gordon and a host of real and friends
