Delia Smith

Delia Sylvia Smith I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. II Timothy 4:7 Sunrise: October 1, 1928 Sunset: April 8, 2024 Delia, affectionately known as “Tea”, transitioned peacefully into the arms of Jesus at the age of 95 years. Delia was the last of 14 children born to William T Hall Sr. and Caroline (Carrie) Adamson Hall in Chambers County Alabama. She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at County Line Baptist Church in Wadley Alabama. She was raised with strong Christian values and it showed in the way she lived her life and in her personality. Delia graduated from the Randolph County Training School in 1947. She then moved to Michigan to pursue a college degree. Delia began taking college courses, however, she met and married Robert Lee Nash and settled down to raise a family. As the children grew older and more independent, she decided it was a good time to continue her dream of a college education. She enrolled in Saginaw Valley State College where in 1975 she eventually graduated with an advanced degree. Delia lost her husband to death but continued to carry on working as a librarian at Potter Elementary School and serving strongly in her church. Delia became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and worked faithfully in the organization. Delia met and fell in love with Onie J Smith. They married and had a full happy life together. Onie Smith passed and she continued with her life remaining active in her family, AKA, and church activities. Delia began working for the Saginaw County Juvenile Court as a social worker until her retirement in 1994. Delia relocated to Maryland in 2014, where she lived happily in an independent living facility until her health began to fail. She made many new friends and enjoyed her retirement playing bingo, attending bible study, leading praise, and worship with song, watching movies, and just generalized socializing. Delia leaves to forever cherish her memory one daughter, Veronica (Wayne) Chase, one son Robert (Cheryl) Nash. Seven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren nieces, nephews and a host of other extended family and friends. Delia was predeceased by her parents, daughter Eunice Randle, husbands Robert Nash, Onie Smith, one grandson Courtnee, four brothers and nine sisters. A special acknowledgement to Delia’s eldest grandchild, Thea. Thea, along with the support of her mother, provided loving concern while honoring her grandmother by sending cards, gifts, telephone calls and visiting regularly even though living nearly 600 miles away. Thea sacrificed her personal time and talent to make her grandmother’s last years happy years. The family is grateful for her loving care.
