Catherine Suggs

On April 21, 2021, God whispered softly into the ear of our beloved Catherine Suggs and said, “Welcome Home Thy Good and Faithful Servant.” God blessed her and peacefully transitioned her from this world to a final resting place with Him. Throughout her life, she remained steadfast in her faith in God, never ceasing to praise His Holy name. This is a true testament to the life she lived, and the love she had for her Heavenly Father. Catherine, beloved daughter of the late William and Josephine Wright was born on January 12, 1927, in Baltimore, Maryland. She lived a full and respected life as a: Woman of God, Loving Mother, and Devoted family member. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, at an early age and was baptized in Baltimore, Maryland. She received her early education in the Baltimore City Public School System, proudly graduating from Carver Vocational High School. In 1948, she married Algia Ford II, and from this union came her most valuable treasure, her beloved and devoted son, Algia Ford III. Her Godly attributes as a Mother are evidenced in the special bond she shared with her son, who she loved with all her heart. Because of Catherine’s strong unwavering faith and love of the Lord, she maintained a strong connection to her family. She was a devoted Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Auntie, Cousin and spiritual Mother to many. She later married, Samuel Suggs, who preceded her in death. Catherine devoted many years to a career in retail sales with the G. C. Murphy Department Store in 1959 and worked there for 32 years, until her retirement in 1991. She was regarded as a model employee because of her commitment and dedication and her kind and cheerful demeanor. Catherine was a dedicated, faithful member of the New Creation Christian Church for over 40 years where she was affectionately known as “Mother Suggs.” At New Creation, she diligently and proudly served on the Love Outreach Ministry. She always took her responsibilities seriously and used her extensive retail knowledge and experience to grow that Ministry. Her Church family remembers her as a giver, an encourager, a prayer warrior and a true friend. She also used her loving and nurturing spirit to mentor young women. She was also known as a good dancer (back in the day) and, over the years she would readily get on the dance floor to “do her thing” at family and community events. She had a heart for people and a spiritual gift to give and serve others. She fed and clothed many people over the years—always serving with Love! And, because of her compassion for others, in 2010 she was recognized by the Maryland Food Bank for her contributions and years of service and commitment to the community. Purple was her favorite color. It is no surprise that she selected the color of royalty as her favorite because she was Royalty to us! She enriched the lives of many through her unconditional love, prayers, encouragement, and wisdom. She will hold a special place in our hearts and minds forever. She will be sorely missed, but never forgotten. She has now received “Her Crown.”
