Michael A. Leggs

MICHAEL ANTHONY LEGGS, son of the late Duval Edward Leggs and Shirley Ann Leggs, was born on October 13, 1959 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life on Sunday, May 19, 2019. He was the oldest born son of three brothers, and was preceded in passing by his middle brother, Jeffrey V. Leggs. He was baptized in the New Elizabeth Baptist Church on May 20, in Baltimore, Maryland in 1973 at the age of 13 along with his brothers. Michael was joined in Holy Matrimony to his beloved wife, Olivia M. “Kitty” Leggs for 30 loving years. Of this union two sons were born, Byron Michael Leggs and Dominique Edmond Leggs. Michael was a 1977 graduate of Northern High School in Baltimore, Maryland where he loved to play sports and excelled in Varsity Football, Basketball, and Lacrosse. He would receive numerous accolades as an athlete, to include being recognized as an unsung hero in football (The Vikings), and being inducted into the Vikings Hall of Fame for Lacrosse. After graduating from High School, Mike would go on to attend the University of Maryland, College Park, for a year, were he majored in Business Management. Soon afterwards, he would enter the work force, were he worked at Good Humor Ice Cream Company as a Quality Control Manager for a number of years. Mike would continue to pursue his education, and later earn his AA Degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in Business Management. In 1983, Mike began employment at Noxell Corporation, and within a couple of years, would begin employment at Proctor & Gamble where he worked in a variety of supervisory positions in production and security until he retired in 2018 after 33 years of service. Mike had many hobbies which included playing in a number of Basketball, Softball, and Bowling Leagues, and running the New York Marathon and the Marine Corps Marathon. At various stages, he would also enjoy coaching basketball and later ensuring that his sons played in basketball or baseball leagues. He was a huge fan of the Ravens where he was a season ticket holder, and a fan of the Orioles where he would enjoy attending many of their games. Mike also enjoyed NASCAR racing and was an avid collector of model cars, replica military vehicles, and sports memorabilia. Soulful jazz and classic R&B music were also two of his favorites. Mike was probably most proud of being a member and Trustee of the Maryland 10th Cavalry Gun Club, where he would enjoy target practice on the range, competing as a marksman and serving as a certified instructor. To culminate his professional development, he would also complete the Federal Bureau of Investigation Citizens Academy in 2016. Mike was a great Husband, Father and older Brother. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, his family and his close friends. He was an excellent provider, and served as an example for many to follow. It wasn’t until recently, that he began to feel ill, and become challenged with a more severe stage cancer that he fought courageously until his homegoing. He would never complain, and he was always in good spirits. Mike is survived by: Wife, Olivia Leggs; Sons, Byron M. Leggs and Dominique E. Leggs; Granddaughter Alira Leggs; Mother-in-law Ms. Rosalind Johnson; Brother, Kyle B. Leggs (Lt. Col., Ret.); Sister-in-law Kim Leggs; Aunt Helen Gilchrist; Uncle Nathaniel E. Jones, Jr., Esquire; two Nieces, Keyonna M. Leggs, and Britney S. Leggs; Nephew, Brian E. Leggs; Sister-in-law Erica Brown; Brother-in-law Joey Henderson; Great Nephew Keelyn J. Barnes; and a host of cousins and friends.
