Frances Edna Johnson Williams was born on November 10, 1924 to the late Naomi Johnson Hopewell and the late Asbury Snowden of Catonsville, Maryland. She departed this life on September 23, 2019, after a lengthy illness. Frances grew up in Catonsville and was educated in Baltimore county schools and attended Douglas High School in Baltimore city. She married her high school sweetheart, Elmer Stanley Williams of Arbutus, Maryland on September 9, 1944 at Grace A.M.E. Church. From this happy union came two daughters, Phyllis Diana and Frances Esther. Frances was always a working woman; her first job was with Glen L. Martin Aircraft Company during the WWII years. After that she worked for a short time as a domestic. After more than 25 years as a checker cashier for Pantry Pride Food Chain, she retired in 1983. The two things Frances loved and cherished most were her family and Grace A.M.E. She was a devoted mother to her two “girls”, always making sure that they attended Sunday School and church every Sunday, coaching them through school work, attending all their performances, teaching them to cook and to sew; and inspiring them to be well educated professional women. She was a proud grandmother and great grandmother always ready to lend a helping hand, read a favorite story or cook a special dish. At Grace A.M.E. church, she was active in many programs, including cooking and serving for any repast. She was a member of the Willing Workers, and the Fields, Hays, Young Missionary Society. During 2009, she was recognized for achieving Lifetime Missionary, in the Fields, Hays, Young Missionary Society. She loved all kinds of puzzles including word searches puzzles. Even until the very end she enjoyed putting puzzles together. She especially loved visits from her great grandchildren and working on puzzles together. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed their visits and the visits from the Grace clergy who brought her communion every first Sunday. Frances leaves to mourn: two devoted daughters Phyllis Diana Williams Sharps and Frances Esther Williams Barron, 2 loving sons-in-law, Percell Sharps and Henry Barron; 4 grandchildren Aaron Gross, Stephanie Sharps, Michael Sharps and Carroll Burley; 5 great –grandchildren Ohren Hunter, Morgan Gross, Lyric Burley, Sabrina and Sofia DeLoach and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
