Daisey Brooks Johnson

Daisey Mae Brooks Johnson, cherished daughter of the late Deacon Lee Culley Brooks Sr. and Deaconess Blanche Bellamy Brooks, was born on July 26, 1938, in Halifax County, North Carolina, as one of eight beloved children. Educated in the Halifax County School System, Daisey graduated from Brawley High School in 1955, where she shone brightly as a basketball player and active member of numerous clubs, including the Glee Club, Science Club, Dramatics, Annual Staff, Student Council and National Health Career Association. Her drive for learning and leadership continued as she pursued higher education at North Carolina Central University, ultimately earning a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Morgan State University. Daisey’s professional life was marked by dedication and excellence. She had an esteemed career with the Social Security Administration as a Systems Analyst, retiring at the young age of 55. Her entrepreneurial spirit also flourished as an Avon representative for 55 years. Her success earned her a place in the Avon President’s Club, where she was celebrated as a top earner and recruiter. A woman of deep faith, Daisey accepted Christ at an early age at Long’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Hobgood, North Carolina. After relocating to Baltimore, Maryland, she became a devoted member of Community Baptist Church of Walbrook under the leadership of Reverend Arthur H. Brown. Daisey served faithfully as a singer in the senior and vocal choirs, head of the Baptist Training Union, church clerk, and superintendent of Sunday school. Her life was a testament to service and unwavering devotion to her faith. Beyond her church, Daisey was a compassionate community servant. She opened her home for 5-Day Clubs through Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF), visited the sick and shut-in, and actively supported Federally Employed Women (FEW). A true philanthropist, she gave generously to various organizations, including sponsoring a child abroad, embodying a heart that always sought to uplift others. Daisey experienced the joy of love twice in her life. Her first union with Harry L. Gibson blessed her with four children, one of whom preceded her in death. Later, she married Reverend Joseph N. Johnson, Sr., pastor of Community Baptist Church of Walbrook, where she embraced her role as the First Lady. Together, they shared a love for ministry, travel, and fellowship, particularly their cherished annual Bible conference at Odosagih in Machias, New York. On December 10, 2024, Daisey transitioned to her heavenly home. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Ramona Blanton, James Brooks, Collis Brooks, Thurston B. Brooks, and Gregory Brooks; by her husband, Reverend Joseph N. Johnson, Sr.; her ex-husband, Harry L. Gibson; her daughter, Anita Gibson; and her grandson, Adam R. Seward. She leaves to cherish her memory her brothers, Clement Brooks and Lee Culley Brooks Jr.; her children, Reginald O. Gibson, Sharon A. Blount (Ricky), and Petrina Saldana (Jimmy); seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Though Daisey has departed this earthly life, her legacy of love, service, and faith endures. She now rests in the arms of her Savior, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her. Her journey on this earth was one of grace and purpose, and her transition marks the beginning of her eternal peace. "Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord."
